NEWSLETTER NUMBER 1 - March 2007
Once again the outdoor bowls season is only just around the corner so it’s time for the first Newsletter of the season to be written. As always at this time your committee look forward to having your continued support throughout the summer months ahead.
Our club membership fee remains at the extremely low rate of just £30 so we hope that our membership numbers might even show an increase this year. Geoff Lewiston has already arranged a full programme of matches and we plan to run all our usual Leagues - Triples on Mondays, Fours on Tuesdays and Singles on Fridays, so there’s plenty of opportunity for everyone to take part and enjoy the value of their membership to the full. The Singles League offers all bowlers, especially those with less experience, a great opportunity to practice in a friendly yet competitive way. The League is divided into sections so everyone can play with, or against, players of similar standard.
Once again every paid up club member will be given automatic – and free - entry into the Club Handicap singles competition. Your name will thus be entered into the draw for the first round (to be played on Fri. 25th May or before if both players agree). Please inform Ian Grant if you are unable to play in this event. All first round winners will be re-drawn for the second round, after which the competition will become a knock-out affair.
As last year, all games - singles and pairs - will be played on fixed dates (with markers provided for singles), unless the games are completed prior to those dates by mutual consent - and the competition secretary is informed. Also, the first two rounds of the 2 Wood competition will be played entirely on one afternoon – Monday 23rd July - (later rounds will be arranged once the names of those remaining in the competition are known). Finally please note that there will be no Ladies Singles or Round Robin competition this year in view of the low number of lady members in the club.
Do keep an eye on the small notice board next to the competition board THROUGHOUT THE SEASON. This will give the latest news of the various competitions, dates of the rounds and arrangements for playing and marking games.
A membership renewal form, club competition entry form, and form for joining in with the club and singles leagues are all enclosed with this newsletter. Do please return these as soon as possible, and certainly before Sunday 22nd April, together with the appropriate remittance, directly to Alan Wilson.
Finally please note that the entry code for the sliding gate has changed and you will need to contact a committee member for the new code. The exit code is, as last year.
We plan to have the green open by week commencing 23rd April but, as always, the actual opening date will very much depend on the weather during March and April.
